Paging Doctor Jackass, Oh Doctor Jackass!
January 31st, 2010
This week I’m going to share a couple of stories with you; true stories. I was brought up to say “yes ma’am” and “yes sir”, to be respectful of my elders and authority figures – which I’ve done my whole life and still do. People use to treat and speak to each other respectfully, unless someone was rude or disrespectful to you or yours.
Unfortunately that’s not the world we live in today. Our world today is “do unto others before they can do unto you”. In our world, people go out of their way to be rude, hateful smart asses. However we don’t have to continuously accept this unprovoked behavior. Every once in a while you have to give someone a “peck on the beak” to get a little respect, in other words you need to treat them the way they’re treating you. People get so use to being jackasses that they no longer realize just how awful they have become. You know, the whole creatures of habit thing.
So here we go, I shared with all of you before that I had been home recovering from surgery. Long story short, I’ve had two cervical spinal surgeries after getting my neck broken in a car accident. Then a few years later I was hospitalized with spinal meningitis and ended up in a coma. I’m doing great now, but I do get horrible spinal headaches from time to time so my spinal doctor, who is awesome by the way, referred me to a specialist at a headache institute. This specialist came highly recommended for his studies in Neurology with interest in headaches. So needless to say I was very hopeful in finding a remedy for something my surgeon said he couldn’t fix.
This specialist turned out to be nothing more than a pompous, pretentious jackass and that’s the nicest thing I can think of to say. He badgered me with every answer insinuating and then outright telling me that I was lying about what had happen to me. At which point I told him I had all the medical records for proof if needed, but why would I lie?
I then told him I understand that this was a lot to happen to one person but the fact remains it did happen. Then he started shouting at me when I couldn’t answer a couple of questions about the meningitis which is because I lost some of my memory, a side affect from the meningitis. He was shouting “focus, I said you will focus!” I started to laugh a little and said, “oh I’m focused alright”. You know I can sit here all day and focus, those memories are just gone. Then he shouted “what do you want from me?’ and I sat there just staring at him. I recall thinking to myself “what the hell, is this really happening?” Needless to say I never went back, I talked to my spinal doctor about what happened and he told me no matter what never go back there.
My doctor told me that he got upset because I was the exception to his classification categories. See, he has written several books on the different types of headaches and when he couldn’t make me fit into these categories his mind was blown. He was so full of himself with his “God complex” that it made him incapable of properly diagnosing patients, not to mention he was just a jackass.
Now in the same week that this happened to me, a friend of mine had an appointment to see her surgeon. You’re not going to believe what happened! He comes into her room and says “how are you?” She replied with, “well my knee is okay today but I’m having trouble breathing.” Doc then says “well I don’t have time for smart asses!” So to change the subject she says, “so how was your weekend?” Doc then says “my personal life is none of your business, but here’s something that is, you need to find a new doctor I don’t have time for a smart ass”. Needless to say she started crying, got her records and left.
So I ask you, what is going on with our doctors? If they think we are going to tolerate being treated and spoken to this way, then they need to see a Shrink! Doctors are very well compensated for their time but ours was a total loss.
We paid for a professional service only to be treated and cheated by jackasses.
Can ya dig it?
